Topics can be combined and rearranged to fit the needs of your group, the below workshops are simply a starting point.
Stories of Accountability
Working Toward Healthy Relationships
Since 2020, Seth has worked as co-facilitator of a Domestic Abuse Transformation Program; a 26 week group for men who have caused harm in relationships. This workshop features stories from a few of the men who have graduated from the program and their work to take accountability for their past harms, build healthy relationship skills, and build healthier versions of manhood. This is a unique experience that blends real people's experiences with activities to help participants understand how the construction of masculinity creates a world where intimate partner violence is common...and what we can do about it!
In Their Footsteps
Created by Seth Quam and Rachel Banen
This workshop, created by Seth Quam and Rachel Banen, is inspired by In Their Shoes, by the Washington State Coalition Against Domestic Violence. That curriculum is for teen dating violence prevention, whereas In Their Footsteps is a customizable activity specifically for preventing and responding to sexual violence on college campuses.
In the workshop participants read stories of students who have experienced sexual violence on a college campus, and then step into their shoes and make choices about what to do next. They may decide to report to Title IX or tell a friend what happened. Based on that choice, they are directed to a different part of the room and get a card that explains what happened next and then gives another choice. This workshop provides students with an understanding of the dynamics of sexual violence on college campuses, an in-depth overview of resources available to students, and empowers them to work toward prevention.
Seth has facilitated this workshop with hundreds of students at the University of St. Thomas, and pre/post test data suggests that it is particularly effective in increasing students' knowledge of resources on and off-campus for survivors of sexual violence.
Man Enough
Breaking Free from Restrictive Masculinity
Expectations put on men to be manly all the time are confining and harmful. This workshop takes participants through activities and discussion to reveal the ways that masculinity has been constructed and how we can move to healthier, more authentic versions of masculinity.
Rape Culture 101
What We Can Do to Dismantle It
This workshop includes videos, interactive activities, and discussions to help define what rape culture is, why it exists on our college campuses and throughout our society, the history of rape culture and examples from pop culture, and what we can do to dismantle it.
